The purpose of this site is simply to gather and present the bizarre, funny and interesting things that can be found on the New York City subway system.
Viewers are encouraged to participate: When you are on the subway and you notice a strange person/object or if you have an out of the ordinary experience, snap a picture or two of it on your camera phone or write down the story and send it to us along with the location of the shot (line/subway stop). If it doesn’t require any explanation, great. If it does, send us a short caption describing what’s going on. Again, if you have a story but no picture, feel free to send that as well (no fabrications or MTA fan fiction, please). You will of course be credited for your submission.
Our email address is submissions@subwaysights.com
To the best of our knowledge no website like this exists, and ours can only build momentum with your help. Pass this along to your friends if you’d like, and be at the ready with your camera phone.
Note: Taking pictures and videos in the subway is completely legal. From the MTA website:
“Photography, filming or video recording in any facility or conveyance is permitted except that ancillary equipment such as lights, reflectors or tripods may not be used. Members of the press holding valid identification issued by the New York City Police Department are hereby authorized to use necessary ancillary equipment. All photographic activity must be conducted in accordance with the provisions of this Part.”
